No Boston Bob ride for Ruby Walsh

Who would have fancied Wullie Mullins horse Boston Bob with Ruby Walsh in the saddle? We certainly would!

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and Walsh will instead by riding Sir Des Champs in this year’s Grand National.

Paul Townend will be on Boston Bob on Saturday afternoon for the big race in a move which is certain to shake up the betting market. The odds on Boston Bob winning the Crabbies Grand National with Ruby Walsh dipped as low as 20/1 just two weeks ago as punters flocked to back the horse to repeat the success it achieved in the Bobby Chase at Fairyhouse.

Boston Bob and Ruby Walsh teamed up to clinch he Punchestown Gold Cup, with Walsh a two-time winner of the Grand National with Papillon in 2000 and Hedgehunter in 2005.

Paul Townend will welcome the opportunity to ride Boston Bob, given that the jockey has never had a win in the showpiece race.

In other declarations, Barry Feraghty will ride Shutthefrontdoor while Bryan Cooper will be on First Lieutenant.
