What date and time is the 2017 Grand National?

The 2017 Grand National has a brand new sponsor, with The Last Samuri 25/1 to go one better

We had a fantastic renewal of the Grand National in 2016 and thoughts already move towards the 2017 race where forty runners and riders will once again compete over the major obstacles at Aintree.

The 2017 Grand National takes place on Saturday 8 April and the start time is once again scheduled for 5.15pm, with Channel 4 reporting that there were ten million viewers tuning in to watch the race at this revised time.

Once again, there will be fierce competition to get horses entered for this prestigious race, with Randox Health starting their new sponsorship of the Grand National which will last for five years.

The Last Samuri is currently available at 25/1 with William Hill, with the Kim Bailey-trained charge running a blinder in the 2016 race although it’s worth bearing in mind that the horse will be saddled with a lot more weight this time around!

Don Poli could be tilted at the 2017 Grand National after previously entered for the 2016 race and we know that the Willie Mullins-trained horse has bags of class and staying ability.

Many Clouds might actually get a better weight allowance next time around, with the 2015 winner priced at 33/1 with Paddy Power to win again for Oliver Sherwood and they might fancy another crack at this prestigious race.

However, Rule The World did it once and Mouse Morris has a reputation for getting horses bang-on for the big occasion as he’s proven time and again. The Gigginstown horse is a 33/1 poke to deliver consecutive victories.

At a bigger 40/1, Cause of Causes could be worth an interest as this was one of the horses that didn’t make the weights although the JP McManus horse has performed credibly at Cheltenham and could go close if entered.

Goonyella also catches the eye at 66/1, especially if the ground comes up soft again and it’s worth noting that this horse was sent off at 12/1 in the 2016 race after being backed from 25/1 on the day.
